From the airport
- The nearest airports are Manchester to the south and Glasgow to the north.
- There is a connecting train service from Manchester Airport to Oxenholme & Kendal.
- From Monday to Saturday six trains an hour run between the Airport and Manchester Piccadilly during the day with four per hour on Sundays.
Night services are less frequent..
From the station
- Oxenholme the Lake District train station is situated on the west coast main line and is also the start of the Windermere branch line to Windermere.
- Trains arriving on platform one run north to south.
- Trains arriving on platform two run south to north.
- A taxi service is available from the main exit on platform one.
- A bus service is available into kendal from the subway exit on platform two.
From the North:
- At M6 junction 39, take the B6261 to A6, then turn left onto the A6 towards Kendal.
- Stay on the A6 for about 10 miles, and then take the left hand turn signposted for Patton Bridge and Watchgate Treatment Works. Take your next immediate right hand turn (about 50 metres).
- Proceed up hill, down the other side.
- The cottages are the 4th entrance on your left, through the black iron gates (just before the farmyard).
- For Lake Entrance: (Do not turn right after 50M) Continue along the lane for about 800M. Take your first right hand turn (there is a large sign for High Thorn Fishery) through the green double gates (these are usually open). Proceed down the track, through the electric push button gate and down to the lake.
From the South:
- At M6 junction 36, take the A590 exit to Kendal
- Follow length of A590/A591 to roundabout, take 3rd exit A5284.
- Take A5284 to Sands Avenue, keep left and continue onto A6 Station Road (towards Kendal Train Station)
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Longpool/A6 Shap, and under the railway bridge.
- Continue on A6 out of Kendal, and after 4 miles take the right hand turn signposted Patton Bridge and Watchgate Treatment Works.
